Welcome to Bound for Glory. This game is based on the fantastic Dungeon World rpg, but instead of complicating the rules, it gets rid of them... and arrives at something we call ‘free kriegsspiel’.

In Free Kriegsspiel (and in the modern movement we founded, ‘Free Kriegsspiel Revolution’, which you can find here: https://discord.gg/fQGah4s), the game master IS the rulebook.

(We call them ‘referees’, following the tradition of roleplaying games that were played before Gary Gygax published the first commercial rpg.)

FKR games allow you to play almost instantly. No complex rules (but very simple ones), no rulebooks. Yes, this type of roleplaying game requires trust. Trust between the players among themselves, and trust that the referee is there to have a good time with all the other players. But then again, this is the way we played as children, and the way our children are playing now.

Maybe that’s the reason why FKR gaming is so liberating: It’s a journey back to instinctive gaming, and it’s a journey forward into the realms of imagination. ‘Play worlds, not rules’, is our motto, so you won’t find pages upon pages of rules in Bound for Glory. You will find lots of things that inspire you, though.

Thank you for playing Bound for Glory. Long live love. Long live imagination!

...Why the three versions? I don't even see any differences, at a quick glance...

I’m digging this a lot. I’ve only made it to the Wizard so far and have a question: what does the move “1. Cast Spells” do when Cantrips are known and two spells are granted through the d30 rolls? It seems like casting spells is a given.

(1 edit) (+1)

Hey, great to hear you're enjoying my game! Well, there *might* be Wizards who, for some reason, can't cast spells per se, but have powers that mimic spells... for instance:

A Wizard with arcane protection ("arcane armor") who is able to enhance the effects of magic items simply by touching them. This Wizard rolls two spells: Sleep, and Shadow Walk. Now, we know s/he can't cast spells (because the player didn't pick or roll the move "1. Cast Spells"), but somehow, this Wizard still has the ability: maybe it's a PSI-like thing, or maybe those "spells" are beings he tamed.

The difference is in the narration, and it's also in scope: A Wizard without that move "1. Cast Spells" can't learn spells from a book, in my game. In your game, of course, this might be perfectly possible.

Does this make sense?

Excellent response! Thank you.

Very welcome!

There will be updates… one of the things I'm working on is more detailed advice on how to run games.
